InZOI director Kjun posted two developer diaries on the official InZOI Discord in the days following the Active High School update, laying out the team's priorities and acknowledging that the base game still needs work before they push forward with more content.
The tone was unusually candid. "I feel sorry that we released the update before fully stabilizing the base game," Kjun wrote in the first diary on June 19. "Strangely, the more we continue development, the more issues we seem to discover."
Stability first, then depth
Rather than keeping a separate bug-fix team, InZOI's entire development staff is now contributing to base game stability. Kjun described two main approaches the team is taking:
The first is what they call "better numerical control," which means adjusting the internal values, priorities, and conditions that drive character behavior, needs, schedules, and overall simulation flow. The second involves adding active situation-control features so players can better understand and guide what's happening during play.
The goal, as Kjun put it, is to make existing features "connect more naturally with each other, so that inZOI can feel more like real life."
What's already in the works
Several player-requested features are actively being developed. The team showed off new undergarment assets including nightgowns, briefs, boxers, and lingerie. They're also working on making Zoi react to infidelity and cheating differently based on their traits, which should add some personality-driven drama to relationship gameplay.
Active interactions like throwing, kicking, and fighting are getting reworked to feel more fluid, with more being added. And the team previewed non-uniform scaling and free placement for objects, though this is currently being developed through modding tools rather than as a built-in feature.
The post-July roadmap
The second developer diary on June 26 outlined a detailed list of planned improvements organized by category. Some highlights:
Family and character updates will include family photo capture, the ability to edit entire families together, expanded relationship settings, family presets, and adding new family members during gameplay.
Conversations are being reworked to better reflect the current situation and context. The personality system is getting several additions: new traits, a higher maximum trait count, acquired traits that develop based on a character's values, a new "Donut Trait" specialization system, and ambitions designed for children.
On the daily life side, the team plans to introduce an ingredient-based cooking system, more dishes, and a change where food left unattended on stoves can start fires. Top-performing graduates will also get advantages during job interviews, tying the school system more directly into careers.
For autonomy and relationships, the team listed deeper personality-driven autonomy, the ability to stay overnight at another character's home, expanded romance, and NPCs who approach and initiate interactions more naturally.
Community modding as a bridge
One of the more interesting questions Kjun raised was whether players would be open to certain features being delivered through modding rather than official updates. The development team acknowledged they don't have the resources to address every piece of feedback directly and asked the community whether mod-supported solutions would be satisfying for features that are difficult to prioritize.
"If some of the areas where we are still lacking can be improved more easily and quickly through mods, perhaps the community could help expand the game in ways that are difficult for us to address immediately," Kjun wrote.
It's a pragmatic ask, and the non-uniform scaling demo they showed was an example of what that could look like in practice. Whether the community embraces that approach or pushes back remains to be seen.
