InZOI's planned August update has been pushed to early September, but the delay comes with a detailed look at what Krafton's life sim is prioritizing: a rebuilt outfit system, smarter NPC behavior, and several new gameplay systems including restaurants, vacations, and sleepovers.

Producer and director Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim confirmed the timeline shift on August 14, noting that the team has been "focusing on making the fundamental aspects of everyday life and behavior in inZOI feel more natural" rather than adding new content. "While this won't be a particularly large update," he wrote, "a lot of development work has gone into strengthening the foundations."

The outfit system gets a complete rebuild

One of the biggest changes in the September update is a unified context-based clothing system. Previously, InZOI handled outfit changes on a case-by-case basis, which led to Zois swapping clothes unexpectedly mid-action.

The new rules work on a layered logic:

  • Zois wake in sleepwear and stay in it until they shower, then switch to everyday clothes.
  • Everyday wear responds to temperature: summer clothes in hot weather, winter clothes in cold conditions, and standard everyday outfits for mild temperatures.
  • Entering specific locations triggers appropriate outfits (gym clothes at a gym, swimwear at a pool).
  • Zois stay in situation-appropriate clothing for the entire time they're at a location, so they won't randomly change back while lounging poolside.
  • Leaving a lot, traveling via the World Map, or going home resets them to everyday wear.

This should resolve a persistent frustration where outfit switches interrupted the visual flow of gameplay.

Autonomy that actually makes sense

The behavioral improvements address something any InZOI player will recognize: Zois arriving at a restaurant and then wandering around doing nothing related to eating.

Two new systems tackle this. The first defines actions Zois should prioritize at specific locations, so they'll order food at a restaurant instead of staring at decor. The second is an interaction permission system that keeps employees out of customer seats and vice versa.

Seating logic gets a notable upgrade too. Zois will no longer sit at a table with strangers when empty tables are available. On the flip side, they'll actively seek out tables where someone they know and like is sitting, even if a closer empty option exists.

Other autonomy fixes include Zois going inside their own home to fulfill needs instead of wandering elsewhere, and a collision fix for food where multiple Zois no longer fight over the same plate.

Players can also now edit default autonomy actions, including story progression options. NPC Zois will be able to interrupt conversations and progress their lives through marriage, pregnancy, and divorce.

Restaurants, vacations, and sleepovers

Three new gameplay systems are on the way:

Restaurants will feature a full dine-in experience where players order food at a table, a chef cooks it, and a server delivers the meal. Vacations introduce a menu for choosing a destination, traveling companions, and accommodation, with local food and activities available at the destination. Sleepovers let you invite friends, family, or love interests to stay overnight.

Active interactions and other additions

A new "active interactions" system adds direct button inputs for physical actions. One button picks up a plate, another throws it. You can swing a fist in the air or at someone, with the expected relationship consequences.

Water physics are getting a pass so Zois move more slowly and sway realistically while floating. Running now triggers naturally by holding "W" for an extended period instead of requiring Shift. Babies can be interacted with outside the home. A new active schools feature lets players choose which children attend which class periods. And Zois will develop food preferences, showing visible reactions to meals they enjoy or dislike.

A heads-up for custom regions

Kjun warned that players who previously customized regions or spaces may need to re-register some information for the new priority and permission systems to work correctly. A reset option is being prepared, and the developer explicitly invited feedback: "If you are against this change, we are prepared to stop and reconsider it."

The update's delay follows Krafton's broader pattern of taking extra development time on InZOI, including the PS5 version push to the first half of 2027. Kjun closed by promising: "Since the update is arriving a little later than planned, we'll work hard to make sure we can show you something even better."
