InZOI producer and director Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim has previewed the game's next major update in a teaser video posted this week, and the feature list is substantial. From a rebuilt baby system and revamped travel mechanics to scuba suits, fire dancing, and the ability to run your own hotel, the August update touches nearly every corner of the early access life sim.
No release date has been confirmed yet. Kjun noted that the team's improvement list for August is long enough that he's "a little concerned we may not be able to deliver the update as quickly" as hoped, but promised to announce the date in advance once it's locked in.
Babies finally share a system with adults
The biggest structural change involves babies. Until now, babies and adults ran on "completely different systems, which resulted in many functional issues," according to Kjun. The update merges babies into the same underlying framework as older Zois.
Practical changes include new Create-a-Zoi appearance options for babies, a fix for the persistent red hue on infant skin, new walking animations, and autonomous bed-seeking behavior (toddlers will now find and move to a small child's bed on their own when one is available). Kjun's advice: "Once your child starts walking, please make sure to provide them with a bed of their own."
The genetics system is also getting attention. The core challenge is that male and female Zois use different base facial data, which makes inherited traits inconsistent across genders. The team is considering unifying that data so family resemblance passes down more naturally. Face presets are being refreshed as part of this work.
Travel reworked, hotels on the way
Travel is being separated from relocation entirely. The previous system combined both functions, "which made it confusing and inconvenient to use." The new design aims to feel like actual travel rather than moving house.
Hotels (called "accommodations" in the game's terminology) are the centerpiece of this rework. Both players and NPCs will be able to book stays, and later, through the business system, players can operate their own accommodations, complete with UI for configuring individual guest rooms. Summer was deliberately left without a public holiday because the team wanted travel itself to fill that seasonal role.
A small but welcome vehicle improvement: Zois can now continue driving all the way home when traveling by car, rather than teleporting partway. Automatic outfit-changing based on location was also refined.
New clothing, scuba gear, and animations
The cosmetics side of the update adds casual adult outfits, new underwear and pajama sets, sandals, and fresh hairstyles. The previously teased scuba diving suit gets a closer look with detailed screenshots, confirming it as a full activity rather than just a costume piece.
On the animation front, fire dance performances are coming (shown across multiple preview screenshots), along with new interactive photo mode poses. And for the detail-oriented: an oven mitt is being added so Zois will no longer pull burning hot trays from the oven bare-handed.
UI and autonomy simplification
Several interface improvements are in progress:
- The holiday calendar gets a visual overhaul to make seasonal events harder to miss
- The mini-map navigation is being improved
- The hiring interface for small businesses is being streamlined
- Autonomy settings, previously scattered across "several different layers" for city, family, and active Zoi, are being consolidated. Going forward, the most recently applied autonomy option will be the one reflected in that Zoi's behavior, and settings will extend to certain NPC families with broader, more flexible options
New builds and in-game entertainment
New prebuilt houses are being added to the game, along with various object assets teased for future content. The update also introduces "The Last Clue," a new movie that will play in the game's theaters, shown through extensive preview screenshots depicting various scenes from the film.
For players keeping up with InZOI's development pace, this is one of the meatier previews Kjun has shared since the game entered early access. The PS5 version remains on track for the first half of 2027, but PC players can expect these features to land sometime this month.
