Krafton's life sim inZOI won't make it to PS5 this year. The studio confirmed today that the console version has been pushed to the first half of 2027, walking back a previously stated 2026 release window.

More than a straight port

In a statement posted on Steam, inZOI Studio made clear that this isn't a case of a game falling behind schedule on identical work. The team said they don't want to "recreate the PC version one-to-one" and instead want the PS5 release to "feel natural and fully suited for console players."

That means rethinking controls and interface from the ground up for gamepad input. The studio specifically called out work on "optimizing the control flow so that menus and UI elements on screen can also be selected and controlled comfortably with a gamepad." They're also exploring DualSense-specific features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

For a game built around micromanaging a virtual person's daily life, getting the controller feel right is a legitimate concern. Life sims rely on layered menus and precise object placement in ways that don't translate cleanly from mouse and keyboard without dedicated design work.

Where inZOI stands on PC

inZOI has been in Early Access on PC for over a year now, and player reception has been described as very positive. The game has already given The Sims 4 real competition on that platform, something few titles have managed in the two decades EA's franchise has dominated the space.

Just this week, inZOI director Kjun published developer diaries outlining a shift toward base game stability and planned feature additions. That focus on strengthening foundations before expanding tracks with the reasoning behind the PS5 delay: get it right rather than get it out fast.

What this means for the life sim landscape

The delay lands at a moment when the genre is more crowded than it's been in years. Paralives entered early access with strong building tools and is actively patching toward feature parity, while The Sims 4 continues evolving its pack and pricing structure. Console players waiting for a Sims alternative will need to be patient a bit longer, but Krafton's willingness to delay rather than ship a bare-minimum port suggests they're treating PS5 as a proper launch, not an afterthought.

A first-half 2027 window still leaves room for things to shift again, but the reasoning here is specific enough to be encouraging rather than worrying.
