InZOI's next major update, expected in August, is rebuilding how Zois think and act from the ground up. Developer Kjun shared the details in a new developer diary released today, walking through specific examples of how the autonomy system, food handling, baby care, and Create-A-Zoi are all getting significant attention.

The tone from the team is refreshingly direct: Kjun openly states that "such fundamental behaviors still needed this level of attention" and asks players to report situations where autonomous behavior feels off.

Autonomy gets a proper decision tree

The headline improvement is a redesigned autonomy system for how Zois choose where and how to do things. Kjun described the dining example in detail: when a Zoi wants to eat, the game now searches for an appropriate table in stages. It checks the current room first, then expands outward across the lot, prioritizing indoor dining areas before outdoor spaces. On residential or business lots the search covers the full property; in public areas it looks within a 40-meter radius.

If no table is available, the Zoi finds a nearby chair and eats while holding their food. The system also tries to seat family members and friends together so they share meals naturally.

Performance is being managed alongside these changes. The team is optimizing search order, limiting scope, and cutting unnecessary calculations so the smarter decision-making does not slow things down when many Zois process choices simultaneously.

Context-aware moods and food handling

Beyond dining logic, the update introduces context-sensitive emotional shifts. The example given: a Zoi arrives at the gym unmotivated, but becomes excited and motivated once they start working out or see others exercising, which then improves their skill progress and happiness.

The cooking system also gets a practical fix. Food left out too long will now be placed in the fridge rather than immediately thrown away. Two new recipes (Mushroom Soup and Lamb Steak) are being added, and several existing food items have received graphical updates to raw ingredients and cooked dishes.

Baby care and Create-A-Zoi overhaul

Infant-related systems are seeing a batch of improvements:

  • Cribs now have small toys and decorations around them for a more realistic look
  • New subcategories organize baby interactions, making it faster to find specific actions
  • Players can now create a baby directly in Create-A-Zoi, setting appearance, traits, and more from the start
  • A sidebar showing family members on the left side of the Create-A-Zoi screen is in development for easier switching
  • The family tree and relationship systems in Create-A-Zoi are being improved

A separate addition lets players change the uniform every student wears at school.

Where this fits in the bigger picture

This developer diary continues the "Fundamentals First" approach Krafton has been taking with InZOI through 2026. The team has been releasing weekly updates on Discord and social media showing incremental progress, and the August patch appears to be where many of these foundational changes land together. With the PS5 version delayed to the first half of 2027, the PC build is clearly the priority for now.

Kjun closed the diary by inviting players to share feedback on any autonomous behavior that still feels unnatural. For a game that has faced criticism about shallow simulation, this kind of transparent, system-level rework is exactly what the community has been asking for.
