InZOI's next major update is targeting August 2026, and the developer diary published on July 31st lays out a substantial list of improvements to Create-A-Zoi, mod tools, in-game interactions, and how Zois behave when left to their own devices.

Create-A-Zoi gets voice, family creation, and portraits

The Zoi card, which displays all of a character's information, can now be used to jump straight into Create-A-Zoi and build new family members for an existing Zoi without starting a separate session.

Voice customization has moved beyond its early tease into a working model. There are roughly six preset voices with a pitch slider, and the system does not restrict voices by gender. The only factor determining which options appear is age.

A family picture generator rounds out the Create-A-Zoi additions. Once you have a household together, it will automatically pose your Zois for a group portrait. Separately, a related feature is in progress that lets you take photos during gameplay and slot them into in-game picture frames.

Mod tools become more accessible

Two changes stand out for the modding side. The mod manager no longer requires backing out to the main menu; it is now accessible from any active play session. And the modkit itself is being updated to give modders the ability to customize the main menu and lobby screen.

On the save-file front, a new button in the save menu will open the exact folder on your drive where that file lives. This makes manual backups and sharing saves with other players far simpler.

Quality-of-life fixes across the board

Inventory management gets a drag-and-drop upgrade: you can now pull any item from a Zoi's inventory and place it anywhere in the world or inside any container. The mini-map also receives attention, with icon toggles now controlling what is visible not just on the map itself but in the 3D environment.

Water activities: surfing, swimming, and scuba

Swimming interactions are expanding. Zois can now splash others in the pool and hold conversations with characters standing at the water's edge.

Surfing arrives as a directional mini-game. The developers noted they could not achieve full free-control surfing, so instead players guide a surfing Zoi to maintain balance and avoid wiping out. Free-control scuba diving, however, was successfully implemented and has been refined further since its initial version.

Autonomous behavior gets a purpose-driven overhaul

Director Kjun's weekly diary focused on a deeper systemic change: making Zoi visits to community lots feel intentional. The problem, as Kjun described it, is that Zois visiting a bakery or caf茅 would spend most of their time on unrelated actions like checking phones, chatting, or wandering instead of doing what they came for.

The team is restructuring behavior so that roughly 90% of a visiting Zoi's actions relate to their actual objective. A Zoi heading to a bakery will buy bread, sit down to eat it, then leave when finished, rather than lingering for a fixed timer. Random behaviors like small talk still happen, but far less often.

One challenge the team flagged: overly rigid behavior sequences can break when conditions are not met, like no available seats. They are researching ways to keep the purpose-driven system flexible enough to adapt. These changes currently apply to standard lots such as caf茅s, bakeries, and parks. Business lots and schools are being handled under separate development plans.

Since InZOI's PS5 version was pushed to the first half of 2027, these PC-focused quality-of-life updates represent the game's primary improvement track for now.
