A quiet town with a complicated past
Pleasantview is one of three pre-made neighborhoods shipped with The Sims 2. In the game's timeline, it picks up 25 years after the events of the original The Sims, in a suburb founded by Gunther Goth on the outskirts of SimCity. The town is small and grassy, nestled between three mountains and bordered by water. Streets like Sim Lane and Main Street carry over from the first game, and 22 residential lots spread across distinct areas: a trailer park in the northwest, condos in the northeast, a commercial strip along Main Street, large suburban houses through the middle, and the wealthiest homes along the southern waterfront.
Six families are already moved in when the game begins, with two more waiting in the family bin. Most households start with around §1,000, barely enough to cover a round or two of bills. The Goths are the one exception, sitting on §511,632.
Families and their tangled storylines
The Goth family anchors the neighborhood's biggest mystery. Mortimer is elderly and grieving the disappearance of his wife Bella. His daughter Cassandra is engaged to Don Lothario, the neighborhood's most prolific romantic. Don is already involved with Nina Caliente and Kaylynn Langerak as lovers, carries a crush on Dina Caliente, and once tried to make a move on Bella herself. The game's household description asks outright whether his engagement to Cassandra is even real.
The Caliente sisters, Dina and Nina, arrived in Pleasantview on the eve of Bella's disappearance. Dina, the widow of Michael Bachelor, is now Mortimer's lover, and the game asks whether the sisters' interest in him is "physical... or fiscal." Meanwhile, Daniel and Mary-Sue Pleasant maintain a picture-perfect suburban household with twin teens Angela and Lilith, but Daniel is secretly involved with Kaylynn Langerak, the family maid.
On Woodland Drive, Brandi Broke is raising two sons alone in a trailer after her husband Skip died in what the game calls a "suspicious pool ladder accident." With §929 and a teen son who is acting out, the Brokes have one of the hardest starting situations in the game. Nearby, widower Darren Dreamer is quietly in love with Cassandra Goth, though she has no idea. His wife Darleen died in a fire. The Burb family in the family bin is moving in from the city, while the Oldies, Herb and Coral, are simply described as one of the nicest families around.

What sets Pleasantview apart is how its storylines connect across households. Kaylynn Langerak links the Pleasant family to Don Lothario's web of affairs. Dina Caliente ties Bella's disappearance to questions about the Goth fortune. The Brokes' tragedy runs alongside the Dreamers' quieter grief. Every family has something unresolved on day one, and every relationship thread leads to another household's front door.
Pleasantview was the first neighborhood Maxis began during The Sims 2's development and the last one they finished, receiving more development time than Strangetown or Veronaville. That extended attention shows in the density of its starting drama. For many players, it remains the definitive Sims 2 neighborhood.
