Paralives patch 0.1.8 dropped on August 24, and the headliner is a feature players have been asking about since the indie life sim hit Early Access: alternative camera controls.

The update lets you rotate the camera with a middle click and scroll your view with a right click. If that sounds basic, consider that the previous camera scheme was one of the most persistent complaints on Reddit and Steam forums alike. Paralives Studio leaned into the moment with a follow-up post on X compiling screenshots of those complaints alongside a two-word caption: "You're welcome."

Camera controls aside, the patch brings a handful of other additions and fixes worth noting:

  • Column customization in both Build Mode and Paramaker, giving more control over structural detail without needing workarounds.
  • New embarrassed animations for Paras, expanding the emotional range of in-game reactions.
  • A fix for TVs and radios, which stopped functioning "in the past few patches" according to the studio.
  • Various code optimizations and general bug fixes.

The column options are a small but welcome quality-of-life gain for builders, especially anyone who has relied on mods in The Sims 4 just to adjust columns in Create-A-Sim. Paralives baking that flexibility in natively is a good sign for the build toolset going forward.

Steady cadence since Early Access

This is the latest in a series of patches that have arrived at a consistent clip since launch. The July 2 update cut save file sizes from 500 MB down to 30 MB and added Steam Cloud sync. Earlier this week, a developer talk traced the game's seven-year path from prototype to Early Access, citing over 300,000 community feedback reports.

Paralives Studio says the team is "still hard at work trying to find proper reproduction steps for many ongoing issues," so expect more fixes in the pipeline. Full patch notes are available on Steam for anyone who wants the complete list.
