Paralives v0.1.8 is live on Steam for PC and Mac, and it marks a turning point for the Early Access roadmap. This is the last of the smaller improvement patches before the development team shifts its full attention to the end-of-year free expansion.
The team has been upfront about what that means going forward: patches will be spaced out more than usual, though hotfixes for critical issues will still ship as needed.
What's new in v0.1.8
Three additions headline this update:
An alternative "Classic" camera mode gives players control options that will feel familiar if you're coming from other life sims. With this enabled, middle-click rotates the camera and right-click scrolls the view. You can toggle it on in the options menu.
Build Mode and Paramaker menus now support more columns, up to 7 in Build Mode and 4 in Paramaker. This is a small quality-of-life change, but scrolling through item catalogues with more visible options at once should speed up the building workflow noticeably.
The embarrassed emotion animations have been reworked to better convey the feeling. It's a polish pass rather than a new system, but the previous version felt stiff.
Bug fixes and optimization
Several frustrating issues from the v0.1.7 patch have been resolved:
- The Para Info Tab now displays relationship knowledge correctly.
- TVs and radios work again. Turning them on will open a random channel or station, as originally intended.
- Children sitting on couches no longer play adult sitting animations.
- Households where all Paras have died will properly vacate their homes (a regression introduced in 0.1.7).
- Time can no longer accidentally advance while you're in Paramaker, which previously could kill Paras during character creation.
- Assorted visual bugs, including runaway mirrors, broken roof tiles, and shops losing their promotional materials, have been patched.
On the performance side, the team has optimized animation loading for Parafolk, newspaper generation, and the fade-out effect when buildings block the camera. These are part of an ongoing effort to reduce lag spikes and stutters that players have reported since launch.
What this means for the rest of 2026
With v0.1.8 out the door, the Paralives team is now focused on building toward their first major content update. According to the public roadmap, the free end-of-year expansion will include new features and content that go well beyond the incremental fixes we've seen since the May Early Access launch. The team hasn't detailed exactly what's in that expansion yet, but it's now their primary development priority.
If you run into issues between now and the next major patch, the devs note they're still working on reproduction steps for several known bugs and encourage players to keep submitting feedback.
