The Paralives team dropped a hefty quality-of-life patch today, roughly five weeks after the July 2nd update that introduced Steam Cloud and in-game appearance editing. This one tackles babies, food, lighting, lifespans, and over a dozen smaller additions that collectively smooth out Early Access rough edges.

The update is live now on Steam for PC and Mac.

Babies get a full visual rework

The team acknowledged that their original baby models were, in their words, "biblically accurate" and "Bobby Hill coded." The August 10 patch replaces them with updated faces that factor in parent genetics through the Paramaker. Sliders applied to babies will now also carry forward into later life stages.

Beyond looks, babies now spawn in a parent's arms at birth rather than on the pavement (twins and triplets still drop extras on the floor, though the team says Paras will instinctively prioritize putting them in cribs). The patch also fixes a bug where parents could move out and accidentally leave their children behind.

Food storage and kitchen improvements

Refrigerators are functional storage now. Players can place food inside to slow spoilage, making morning routines more practical when your Para needs a quick bite before work. Hovering over a plate of food also shows quality and time until it goes bad, which removes some guesswork from meal planning.

Coffee machines work too: drinking coffee lets a Para ignore sleep need for two hours at the cost of draining their bathroom need.

Street addresses, bed assignments, and social changes

Melino's lots now have street names and numbered addresses, making it easier to track properties as your town grows. Beds can be assigned to specific Paras, and they will choose their own bed at night without being directed.

News, Paralives

On the social side:

  • Intimacy can be initiated directly by clicking a bed or a partner, skipping the previous multi-step process.
  • Hugging is available for family members and friends at friendship level 3 or higher, no longer restricted to romantic partners.
  • Friends at level 3+ can be asked to move in through Together Cards.
  • Breaking up with someone now immediately ends the active conversation and group interaction.
  • Paras can invite others to whatever lot they are currently visiting via phone.

The patch also adds a clear fix for accidental incest: the game now properly detects extended family (grandparents, cousins, uncles) and blocks any romantic feelings or actions toward them.

Lifespan rebalancing

Adult stages gained extra days while pre-teen and younger stages were trimmed. Average lifespan went from 98 to 112 days. The team specifically noted that an elder who has a baby should now live long enough that social services don't immediately claim the child. That is a sentence about a video game.

Lighting, Paramaker filters, and other additions

Indoor lighting received an overhaul that changes how lamps illuminate their surroundings. The Paramaker now has search filters for clothes and hairstyles, and five new clothing patterns were added.

Other notable additions: a townie-tracking toggle on the town map, Dorfromantik as a playable in-game game (celebrating a Steam bundle collaboration), new ground textures pulled from terrain painting tools, lot painting that extends slightly past boundaries so you can connect to sidewalks, and distinct animations for listening to music versus dancing to it.

Bug fixes worth knowing about

The time-speed bug that caused gameplay to break after 70 in-game days has been fixed. The Advanced Transform Tool should no longer corrupt item positions on reload. Timed goals ("Do X for Y amount of time") now progress properly. Dead Paras will stop lying in the street for days, sleep-talking is gone, and toddlers already in a high chair can finally be fed without removing them first.

This is the kind of patch that suggests the Paralives Early Access trajectory is holding steady: nothing flashy enough for a trailer, but dozens of small decisions that make the game noticeably more playable week over week.
