The Sims 4's June 30 patch arrived with a batch of community-voted fixes, but it also introduced a new problem: roofs are going invisible across builds, including EA's own pre-made lots.

SC RoofBug Build Ceiling

Players loading into their saves after updating have found roofs rendering as bare edges or disappearing entirely. The issue hits both custom and pre-built houses. Garden Essence in Willow Creek and Sultry Springside in Oasis Springs are among the affected pre-made lots, according to Sims Community. A bug report on the EA Forums went up the same day the patch dropped.

Why roofs are disappearing

The Sims 4 has a built-in behavior where a fully walled room placed inside a roof will hide the roof sections that overlap with it. That's by design and helps with attic builds, where you want to see the room interior instead of roof geometry clipping through walls.

What the latest patch broke is the condition that triggers this hiding. Instead of applying only to enclosed, fully walled rooms, the game now treats every area under a roof as if it should hide the roof above it, whether it's walled in or not. The result is roofs that vanish over open spaces, porches, and half-wall sections where they should still be visible.

Workarounds to try in build mode

There are a couple of in-game fixes that can restore roofs on affected lots, though both have limits:

First, you can click on the floor area directly beneath the broken roof section and delete it. This removes the trigger that's causing the roof to hide. You can then re-apply the same flooring afterward. This works for most indoor areas.

For spots that lose their floor entirely after deletion, go to the floor above the affected room, click on the room below, select the yellow highlighted area, and choose "Build Ceiling." This restores the ceiling/floor layer without re-triggering the bug.

Neither method works for overhanging roofs that extend past exterior walls. Removing the floor in an unwalled area also removes the ceiling, and there's currently no way to rebuild it in those cases.

Vote on the bug report

If you're on the EA Forums, voting on the official bug report is the most direct way to push this toward a hotfix or priority inclusion in the next patch. EA's bug triage process weighs community votes when deciding what to address first.

This patch was otherwise focused on quality-of-life improvements that the community had been asking for. You can read the full breakdown in our patch notes coverage. For now, builders should expect to do some manual roof repairs on existing lots until EA addresses the issue.
