The base game treats proposals as a yes-or-no social interaction. Click propose, get accepted, move on. The Ever After mod by Thatssojordy fills in everything that happens before, during, and after the question gets popped.

Finding out if your Sim is ready

Before anyone gets down on one knee, your Sim can take a Marriage Readiness Test through the computer. Results are randomized each time, and you can accept them, deny them, or retake the test. Accepting assigns one of two new reward traits: Ready for Marriage or NOT Ready for Marriage.

The traits carry real gameplay weight. Sims who aren't ready can't propose or be proposed to, and they'll get nauseous watching someone fantasize about weddings. You can also ask other Sims whether they're marriage material, which opens up conversation paths that weren't there before.

Proposals you actually get to answer

The mod replaces the standard proposal with a dialog system where you choose how your Sim responds. If they reject, there are follow-up interactions like "Discuss the future of relationship" and "Question the rejected proposal," each with their own mood buffs. You also pick the reason for the rejection: "Too Soon to Get Married," "Financial Reasons," and others.

This is where the storytelling starts to click. A rejected proposal isn't just an awkward moment anymore. It branches into conversations and moodlets that make it feel like something your Sims actually have to process.

Planning the wedding (and stressing about it)

Once engaged, a new Ever After pie menu opens up interactions between partners. Whisper Ideas for the Wedding Night, Argue over Honeymoon Trip, and Ask for Opinion on Future Spouse are a few of the options.

The mod also adds a Ready or Knot app where you can work on wedding invitations, compare venue costs, build an inspiration board, and set up a wedding registry. The registry lets you specify whether you want simoleons, items from the Wedding Gifts Marketplace, or budget-friendly options.

For the legal side, you can ask your partner to sign a prenup. This can go sideways. They might agree and you'll visit the Notary Office through their phone to get the paperwork, which shows up as an inventory item ready to sign. Or they might get very upset about being asked. Either outcome gives you something to play with.

If you own The Sims 4: Parenthood, you can write down the guest list in the journal from that pack.

Cold feet and counseling

Your Sim can get cold feet. They'll pick up stressed moodlets and start to "Stress Over Wedding," and there's a small chance the cold feet become real. If that happens, you have options: visit the Marriage Counselling Center for 1,500 Simoleons, talk it out with a friend, or admit it directly to your partner and hope they take it well.

The counseling center works before things go wrong too. Engaged couples can visit to find out if they're actually a match, which might reassure them or blow everything up entirely.

Destination weddings and download

Sims with a dream wedding destination can get married there and earn a milestone for it. It's a small detail, but it gives destination weddings more purpose than just picking a different lot.

The Ever After mod is free on Thatssojordy's Patreon, and more features are planned.
