The Sims 4's August 6 hotfix is now available on PC, Mac, and consoles. This is a targeted patch addressing bugs introduced in the previous update, including a nasty travel crash on consoles, a save slot overwrite issue, and several UI problems.

2026 Patch Notes, Sims Society

Save system and autosave changes

The patch touches several save-related behaviors:

  • The default Save Reminder Frequency has been changed from "Off" to "Every 2 Hours." If you previously left this setting at its default, you will now get periodic save reminders. You can change this back in Game Options > Gameplay.
  • Autosave and Save Reminder timers no longer reset during travel, which was causing them to fire at unexpected intervals.
  • A bug where loading an autosave of a previously played manual save, then manually saving, would overwrite the wrong save slot has been resolved.
  • Visual feedback when autosaves trigger (on exiting Build Mode or traveling) has been improved.

The save slot overwrite issue in particular was flagged as a priority fix earlier this week. If you lost progress to this bug before today's patch, check your backup saves in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves for files with a recent date.

Crash and performance fixes

  • A memory-related crash when traveling after loading a save has been resolved. This primarily affected console players and was the most disruptive bug from the previous update.
  • Additional caching-related crashes have been fixed.

UI and display fixes

  • The Discover menu tabs no longer misalign or show empty sections.
  • Transitioning from the Gallery to a Marketplace page for unavailable Kits or Packs no longer triggers a "Something Went Wrong" error.
  • A Japanese text display issue specific to PlayStation has been corrected.

Gameplay and world fixes

  • Countdown timers for Careers, School, and After School Activities no longer get stuck showing 0 minutes. This was one of the three headline bugs the hotfix targeted.
  • Premade house thumbnails on the map screen have been rebuilt to remove leftover roof edge artifacts from a previously patched roof issue. If you have already modified a lot, you will need to load into it and leave once to refresh the thumbnail.
  • Lot Taxes have been restored to Residential Rental bills in the For Rent pack. They were previously missing entirely.

How to verify your patch installed

Navigate to Documents > EA > The Sims 4 and open GameVersion.txt. It should match the version numbers listed above. If you have auto-updates enabled in the EA App's Application Settings, the game should update on its own when you open the launcher. Otherwise, open your game library in the EA App and trigger the update manually.
