Maxis teases free items ahead of The Sims 4's 12th birthday
The Sims 4 turns 12 on September 2, and Maxis is marking the occasion with a batch of free content. A new teaser published by the studio shows off decorative objects, furniture, clothing, hairstyles, and other character customization pieces arriving at no cost.
Based on the interface visible in the teaser, these items won't land in a single large patch. Instead, the content will be spread across several mini-patches, though Maxis has not confirmed specific release dates for any of them.
What the teaser shows
The frame from the teaser highlights a mix of build/buy objects and CAS items. Furniture and decorative pieces are visible alongside new clothing options and hairstyles, suggesting a broad spread of content rather than a themed drop focused on one category.
No pack ownership appears to be required for the items shown, which lines up with the studio's recent pattern of bundling free base game additions into smaller updates rather than tying them to expansion or stuff pack releases.
Recent quality-of-life work
This summer has already brought several technical updates to The Sims 4. The most notable addition was a proper autosave function, now available on all platforms, that runs in the background and creates save points at key gameplay moments. That change alone addressed one of the longest-standing community complaints about lost progress. A June 30 update also reworked phone notifications and silenced some of the more aggressive NPC call spam.
Combined with the new Maker Packs on the Marketplace, the anniversary content continues a steady drip of additions even as players wait for larger announcements.

Maxis has not pinned down when the mini-patches will start rolling out. Given the September 2 anniversary, expect at least some of the content to appear in late August or early September. We will update this post once official dates are confirmed.
