Paralives just dropped a new patch through Steam, and this one is worth paying attention to. The July 2nd update brings some practical quality-of-life changes alongside the usual bug fixes, with save file improvements sitting at the top of the list.
Save files and Steam Cloud
The biggest change here is to save file sizes. New saves will now average around 30MB instead of the previous 500MB. That's a dramatic reduction that should help players who were running low on disk space or dealing with slow save times.
On top of that, the autosave system now keeps the three most recent versions of each save file. If something goes wrong mid-session, you can roll back to an earlier autosave from the Load Game menu. Steam Cloud sync is also live, so you can pick up your game on a different machine without manually moving files around.
Editing Paras outside the Paramaker
Players can now edit their Paras' appearance in-game by having them look into a mirror or visit the hospital/pharmacy. This opens up all visual options from the Paramaker (body, face, hair, clothing) except for labels, personalities, and life stages. It's a feature players have been asking about since Paralives hit early access, so it's good to see it land.
New content and gameplay tweaks
The patch adds around 40 new picture frame artworks, hand and bath towels for bathrooms, and expands custom image support to mugs, rugs, skateboards, curtains, cushions, and flags. The Paramaker also got new baby presets and a visual overhaul that swaps its panel for curtains to improve readability.
A notable gameplay addition: being late to work or school now comes with a performance penalty. Cancelling the "Go to Work" action has consequences, which adds a small layer of accountability that was previously missing.
The mods menu got a "toggle all on/off" button, and a new music feature plays softer, simpler versions of tracks when you zoom in on your Para.
Bug fixes worth knowing about
Some highlights from the fix list:
- Paras in relationships no longer get embarrassed when their partner uses the toilet nearby
- Water recyclers, wind turbines, and solar panels now actually reduce your bills
- Cancelling Go to Work/School no longer re-queues the action every 20 minutes
- Lots can be reverted to their original look
- Baby presets no longer have teeth (yes, that was a thing)
- Buying a lot while your Para is sleeping or sitting no longer spawns them in those positions
Known issues still being tracked
The team notes that some Paras get jealous when kissing their own partner, some players can't create new swatches for clothes and assets, and canvases can disappear when starting or finishing a painting. External mods and plugins may also cause issues after this update, so the developers recommend caution when adding new mods until compatibility is confirmed.
