What free base game updates include
Free Base Game Updates are patches released by the development team for all Sims 4 players at no additional cost. Each update can include bug fixes, quality of life improvements, new gameplay features, and free items. The team publishes Laundry Lists ahead of major patches to preview upcoming fixes, many of which respond to the most-voted community reports.
Updates arrive on PC, Mac, PlayStation, and Xbox. Patch notes are published on EA's official news page alongside game guides, event announcements, and Marketplace spotlights.
Recent quality of life changes
Recent patches have focused on reducing notification spam and improving everyday gameplay. The June 30, 2026 update overhauled Live Mode notifications, adding a working Silence Phone button, per-pack festival toggles, and a requirement that Sims be at least friends before calling with dating advice. The same patch restricted Grim Reaper job offers to Sims with the Macabre trait and fixed over 70 bugs, including window alignment issues, Gallery loading problems on consoles, and save corruption caused by lot placement.
The May 12 update introduced over 380 new Base Layer swatches in Create a Sim, a free Lil'Wiggle Playmat for infants, and an improved save backup system with weekly and monthly recovery points. It also included more than 150 bug fixes. Infant care received notable tuning: feeding time was cut roughly in half, diaper changes take about a third less time, and caregivers no longer pick up and put down infants on repeat.
Gallery and Marketplace additions
SimSearch, introduced in May 2026, added cross-language and text-to-image search to the in-game Gallery. A search in one language now returns results tagged in other supported languages, and the text-to-image mode matches search terms to visual content in lot and room thumbnails rather than relying on text matches alone.
Free Maker Drops launched on the Marketplace on June 11, 2026, as a pilot program running through July 16. Independent creators contribute Build/Buy and Create a Sim items that rotate every four weeks at no cost, available through the Marketplace's Discover page on PC, Mac, and consoles.
