Weather and seasons
The Sims 3 Seasons introduces a weather system and seasonal cycle to the open world of The Sims 3. The four seasons each bring different weather conditions, including rain, thunderstorms with lightning, hail, fog, snow, and sunshine, all varying in intensity depending on the time of year. Temperature plays a direct role in gameplay: Sims in extreme cold risk freezing, and excessive heat can cause spontaneous combustion. Players can adjust the length of each season to suit their play style, and a new outerwear category in Create-a-Sim lets Sims dress for bad weather.
Festivals and holidays
Each season includes a holiday that falls on the last Thursday of the season, along with a community festival lot. Love Day in spring features egg hunts, kissing booths, and roller skating. Leisure Day in summer brings water balloon fights, hot dog eating contests, and soccer shootouts. Spooky Day in fall adds trick-or-treating, bobbing for apples, and haunted houses. Snowflake Day in winter offers ice skating, snowball fights, and gift-giving parties. Festival lots can be customized, and activities at each festival earn tickets that Sims can spend on prizes.
Aliens and new mechanics
Aliens arrive as a new playable life state with telepathic abilities and a UFO vehicle. Male Sims can become pregnant through alien abduction. The pack also adds an online dating system and romantic interactions tied to the seasons, including slow dancing and kissing under the mistletoe. These sit alongside new lifetime rewards connected to seasonal gameplay.
