In May 2011, a small Norwegian WordPress blog called SimGoodie was publishing at a furious pace. The archived month contains 42 posts, most of them covering the launch of The Sims 3 Generations (known in Norwegian as "The Sims 3 Generasjoner") and the game update that shipped alongside it. The site's footer declared it "Norge største Sims fanside" (Norway's largest Sims fansite), and based on the volume of content, that claim was not unreasonable.

This is a restored snapshot from the Wayback Machine, preserved here as a piece of Nordic Sims community history.

What SimGoodie was covering in late May 2011

The final days of May 2011 were dominated by The Sims 3 Generations. Between May 29 and 31, the site published gameplay videos showing bachelor parties ("utdrikningslag"), shared the Norwegian loading screen for the expansion (which drew six reader comments), and posted a second batch of gameplay footage.

On May 31, the site reported that the latest base game patch was officially out, warning readers in capital letters: "LAG EN VERDEN VIL IKKE FUNGERE ETTER DENNE OPPDATERINGEN!" (Create a World will not work after this update). The post also flagged that Mac users had reported problems after installing. Players were instructed to launch the game and use the Updates tab in the launcher to apply the patch. That update was patch 1.22, which introduced lifespan sliders and shared memories to the base game ahead of the Generations expansion.

The Generations expansion itself added new life-stage gameplay across all ages. For more on what EA revealed before launch, see our restored piece on what EA's 2011 pre-release interview revealed about the expansion.

Updates, The Girl Who Games

A site that covered the full Sims universe

SimGoodie was not a single-game blog. Its navigation reveals dedicated sections for The Sims 2 with categories spanning eight expansion packs: Byliv (Apartment Life), Bon Voyage, Forretningsliv (Open for Business), Dyreliv (Pets), Ã…rstider (Seasons), Fritid (FreeTime), Uteliv (Nightlife), and Livets skole (University). The site also maintained a dedicated section for The Sims Medieval.

Beyond news coverage, SimGoodie offered a Tutorials section with guides like how to create a waterfall using Create a World, a Downloads section for The Sims 3 custom content, and a section called "Simologi" with subsections covering Business and Sunset Valley. The site ran community polls, maintained a members directory with 98 registered users, and linked to its own forum, Facebook page, Twitter account, and YouTube channel.

A window into early 2010s Sims fandom

The archive captures a time when localized fan communities ran their own infrastructure. SimGoodie launched in late 2009 and published most actively between September 2010 and June 2011. By June 2011, the site was already tracking news about the next expansion, The Sims 3 Pets ("Kjæledyr"), including its Norwegian trailer and console versions. The community was small but active, with reader comments on most posts and a poll asking members whether they would attend a planned SimGoodie relaunch event.

For anyone interested in how Nordic Sims fans organized and shared information before social media consolidated community discussion into a few large platforms, this archive page offers a direct look.
