Vonder Games and publisher Kinetic Publishing have announced Aether Wizard Life, a cozy wizard life simulation headed to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam in fall 2028.
The game puts players in the role of a young apprentice mage living in a customizable walking castle on the outskirts of Starfell, a haunted town filled with spirits of the dead and the schemes of a secret organization bent on kidnapping wizards. Each in-game day is open-ended: grow magical crops, care for exotic creatures, venture into procedural dungeons to fight monsters, brew potions, manage a tavern, or follow the mystery of Starfell's missing mages.
Ghibli and Stardew roots
"We were inspired by the indie games we love to play, Spiritfarer, Stardew Valley, DAVE THE DIVER, as well as the beautiful animation of Studio Ghibli," said Vonder Games producer Shin Wang. "With Aether Wizard Life, we wanted to create a magical world for players to get lost in, where they can choose exactly how they want to spend each day."
That mix of influences shows in the announced feature set. The game promises over 30 wizard skills spanning spellcasting, weapon crafting, summoning, elemental combat, rune crafting, and time manipulation. Players choose from several schools of magic and can romance and marry one of twenty datable NPCs.
Walking castle and narrative stakes
The "move-in castle" acts as a mobile home base whose rooms and appearance can be customized to support different magical pursuits. It is a distinctive hook in a life-sim space that increasingly blends cozy activities with combat and exploration, similar to how Monster Fantasy mixes monster hunting with life-sim living and creature taming.
Beneath the cozy surface sits a darker narrative thread. The clandestine group hunting wizards drives a mystery storyline that runs alongside the daily sandbox activities, giving players who want more directed goals something to chase between farming sessions and dungeon runs.
What to know right now
Fall 2028 is a long lead time, and Vonder Games has not yet shared details on pricing, early access plans, or a Steam page. Confirmed platforms are PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC (Steam). Given the two-year runway, specifics like exact release date and any beta periods are still subject to change.
For life-sim fans tracking the growing wave of genre entries that layer combat, narrative, and crafting on top of traditional farming and socializing loops, Aether Wizard Life looks like one to wishlist once a store page appears.
