Pets and animal life

Unleashed introduced pets as a central feature for The Sims. Players can adopt cats and dogs that count as household members and move independently around the lot. Sims interact with their pets by rubbing, playing, and clapping, and can enter them into pet shows. Beyond cats and dogs, the expansion also added smaller interactive pets including birds, fish, turtles, and iguanas.

Old Town and community lots

The expansion added Old Town, a commercial district attached to the default neighborhood. Old Town features new lot types including pet stores, gardening shops, and food service areas. Community lots in the neighborhood increased from 10 to 40, giving players far more places for their Sims to visit and shop.

Gardening and the Farmers Market

A gardening system let players place landscaping tiles and plant seeds that grow into harvestable crops. Maintaining a garden required watering, removing weeds, and managing pests. Harvested produce could be sold at the Farmers Market or kept for the household to enjoy.

Careers and new objects

Five new career tracks came with Unleashed: Animal Care, Circus, Culinary, Education, and Fashion. The expansion also added around 125 new objects in total, with 30 of those related to pets and gardening.
