Studio Town
Studio Town is a new destination area where Sims pursue fame in acting, modeling, and music. It marked the first time in the franchise that players could follow their Sims to work. Going to Studio Town freezes the clock for the household back home, letting players focus entirely on their Sim's career activities.
The area is divided into lots organized by discipline. Acting lots feature golden rooftops and beige stucco exteriors, including KWLW Studios, Fairchild Film Studios, and Meeker Studios. Modeling lots have blue roofs and white stone exteriors, such as Buckingham Galleries and The Gast District. Music lots are styled with black roofs and black brick, covering Cameron's Lounge, Midlock Multiplex, and Music for the Eyes Inc. The overall neighborhood draws on a Golden Age of Film theme, evoking mid-20th century Hollywood.
Star power and the fame career
Fame in Superstar is tracked through a star power rating measured across five stars in half-star increments. Sims enter the fame career by signing up with the SimCity Talent Agency through the Studio Town tabloid. Unlike standard careers, fame has no set work hours. Sims travel to Studio Town and perform using fame-related objects to earn money and build their reputation.
Star power classes determine a Sim's standing. Sims above 3.0 stars are A-class, those at 2.5 or 3.0 are B-class, and those below 2.5 are C-class. Beginners at 0.0 stars hold Nobody status. Sims can visit Studio Town only once per day, and if a famous Sim skips two consecutive days, their star power begins to drop. Outstanding performers can receive a Simmy award for overall success, along with category-specific awards for acting, music, or modeling.
Celebrity cameos
Superstar features cameo appearances from real-world celebrities who show up as uncontrollable NPCs in Studio Town. These include Avril Lavigne, Marilyn Monroe, Jon Bon Jovi, Christina Aguilera, Andy Warhol, Sarah McLachlan, Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Lopez, and Richie Sambora. They appear periodically across Studio Town lots, adding atmosphere to the Hollywood-inspired setting.
