Sims University

University Life adds Sims University, a sub-world that works like the vacation destinations in World Adventures. Young adult, adult, and elder Sims can enroll after taking an aptitude test, then choose from six majors: Business, Communications, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Science and Medicine, or Technology. Players decide how many credits to study and whether to attend for one or two terms. While a Sim is at university, time back home is paused.

The campus includes dormitories, fraternity and sorority houses, a gym, a pool, and several hangout spots. Rebels gather at the coffee shop, jocks head to a bar with a bowling alley, and nerds meet at the hobby shop. There is also a diner called SimBurger.

Social groups and new skills

Three social groups define the campus experience: Jocks, Nerds, and Rebels. Sims climb group ranks by befriending members and taking part in related activities. Higher ranks open new interactions and objects, and reaching rank 10 earns a job offer in a career tied to that group along with the option to pick an additional trait.

The expansion introduces three new skills. Science lets Sims collect and clone objects. Social Networking covers blogging and texting. Street Art allows Sims to spray-paint murals and tags on walls and ground surfaces, though getting caught by the police results in a fine.

Campus activities

Student life comes with juice kegs, juice pong, bonfire parties, protests, streak runs, soccer, table tennis, and frisbee with the Flying Disc. Three new traits and six new lifetime wishes round out the additions, all tied to the university setting and the new skills. University Life serves as the spiritual successor to The Sims 2: University, returning the college theme to the series.
