Time travel and Oasis Landing

Into the Future sends Sims through a Time Portal to Oasis Landing, a futuristic world set hundreds of years ahead of the present day. Released in October 2013, this was the last expansion pack in The Sims 3's run. Oasis Landing exists in three possible states depending on what your Sims do in the present: a normal future, a lush utopia with permanent rainbows and special flora, or a desolate dystopia hit by constant meteor strikes and covered in smog and debris. Time freezes in the present while Sims age in the future, and Sims can remain in Oasis Landing indefinitely.

The Almanac of Time tracks your household's descendants in the future. Their circumstances change based on family net worth and family composition, so choices made in the present ripple forward across generations.

Plumbots and Create a Bot

The pack introduces Plumbots, mechanical residents that can be built using the new Bot Building skill. Each Plumbot has between three and seven Trait Chip slots, and the chips you install shape their personality and abilities. They can serve as household helpers, or you can give them the Sentience chip to make them more like regular Sims, complete with wishes and opportunities. A dedicated Create a Bot mode lets you design their appearance from scratch.

Skills, careers, and getting around

Three new skills arrive with the expansion. Advanced Technology governs the use of futuristic objects like Food Replicators and Dream Pods. Bot Building covers Plumbot construction and Trait Chip crafting. Laser Rhythm-a-Con is a portable musical instrument that can be played in public areas.

Two career paths are also included. The Astronomy career branches into Astrophysicist or Space Explorer, while the Bot Arena career offers Mechanic or Arena Promoter tracks.

Getting around Oasis Landing means new transportation options: the Windcarver hover skateboard, Jet Packs that can be dangerous without a high enough Advanced Technology skill level, and the ZEPHYR Monorail transit system. Futuristic home objects round out the pack, including holographic televisions, tube elevators, and all-in-one bathrooms that handle hygiene and bladder needs at once.
