What the pack adds

Helaften, known internationally as The Sims 3: Late Night, is an expansion pack released in October 2010 for Windows and macOS. Developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, it draws on ideas from The Sims 2: Nightlife and The Sims: Hot Date to build out the after-dark side of The Sims 3.

The expansion introduces Bridgeport, a new world loosely based on New York City. Bridgeport is divided into a dense downtown area, a quieter uptown, and a hilly, affluent suburban zone. High-rise apartment buildings and penthouse lots give Sims a distinctly urban living experience, and a subway system provides mass transit across the city.

Gameplay systems

Late Night's main additions center on fame, the undead, and music. The celebrity system tracks each Sim's fame across five star levels, opening up exclusive venues and celebrity perks as they climb. Vampires arrive as a new life state with abilities such as faster skill learning, mind reading, and enhanced movement speed. Sims can also pick up instruments including bass, drums, and piano, form bands, and book paid gigs around Bridgeport.

The mixology skill lets Sims craft specialty drinks at a professional bar object, each with its own gameplay bonus. New community lot types such as dance clubs, lounges, and dive bars fill out the nightlife scene, and some require a minimum celebrity level to enter. Butlers are available as a live-in household hire, taking over cleaning duties while also cooking and providing other services. Two new traits, Shy and Star Quality, and a set of nightlife-themed lifetime wishes round out the expansion.

Bridgeport and build content

Bridgeport leans on vertical living, with high-rise residential lots and penthouses that set it apart from earlier Sims 3 worlds. The downtown skyline is packed with venue lots for clubs and bars, while the suburban hills hold larger traditional homes. Hot tubs and elevators are among the new interactive objects, and the expansion added expanded body customization options in Create-a-Sim including muscle definition sliders.
